Next up: Why we don't lock our doors, because thieves might happen to carry lockpicks!

After all, locks are not 100% secure, therefore, that security is totally useless, right?

Actually, I don't lock my doors because that would mean either a broken door jam or a broken window. If they don't care about the dogs, the "Protected by S&W" & "Guns don't kill people. I kill people!" stickers, or the mail box full of gun rags, then they wont care about damaging my house to get my goodies...

Is the Gaming PC Dead? 417

An anonymous reader writes "Rahul Sood, HP's CTO of gaming, argues that the days of a market that wants PCs running three $500 GPUs is history; he argues that it's really a tough or impossible sell. '... let's face it, high-end hardware has delivered diminishing returns in terms of value. This is why you don't see ridiculous offerings like Quad SLI and 2-kilowatt power supplies coming from our company.' But don't the ideas of customization and market pricing for components tend to undercut that? Is the gaming PC dead?"

I grew up farming and ranching and I agree with all you stated except for subsidized farming. If a crop is crap then plant something else. If everyone forgoes crap this year then demand will be higher next year and planting it may be worthwhile again. Crop rotation is usually considered a good thing. Government need not be involved.

The successful farmers I know have planted what would sell and usually had buyers before they planted. Sure we all planted some speculation crops, but they paid for new toys - or not.

Sleep Mailing 195

Doctors have reported the first case of someone using the internet while asleep, when a sleeping woman sent emails to people asking them over for drinks and caviar. The 44-year-old woman found out what she had done after a would be guest phoned her about it the next day. While asleep the woman turned on her computer, logged on by typing her username and password then composed and sent three emails. Each mail was in a random mix of upper and lower cases, unformatted and written in strange language. One read: "Come tomorrow and sort this hell hole out. Dinner and drinks, 4.pm,. Bring wine and caviar only." Another said simply, "What the......." If I had known that researchers were interested in unformatted, rambling email I would have let them read my inbox. They could start a whole new school of medicine.

Microsoft Plans VR Simulation of Everything? 217

Ian Lamont writes "Microsoft recently updated ESP, a virtual reality modeling platform that until now has primarily been used to model aircraft and flight simulations. Microsoft has plans to expand it to other industries such as real estate and urban planning, but one of the most interesting possibilities could be what one observer refers to as a 'simulation of everything,' based on Virtual Earth and perhaps even user-generated content. Indeed, Microsoft's research chief has been promoting the idea of commerce applications and other tools built on top of what he calls the 'Spatial Web', a blend of 3D, video, and location-aware technologies. He gave an example of a shopkeeper creating 3D models of his store's interior and goods with Photosynth and then uploading the results into a large 3D model of local shopping district. Customers could 'visit' the area, browse products, and order them for real-world delivery."

An Inside-Out Look At the Antec Skeleton Case 64

Anonymous writes "Here's a step-by-step look at building a PC with the new Antec Skeleton PC chassis. It's obviously not for everybody, but at least Antec is trying out something relatively new for hard-core users. Not sure if you'd need an air spray can to keep the dust off all the components, though ..."
