Michael? Son, is that really you?

So, first, I'm glad to see you are actually able to post something of interest on slashdot. It's been a heck of a long time.
Second, you'd better come home or you're going to get the spanking of a lifetime. Your mother and I were worried sick.

Come son, leave these slashdotters alone. Enough harm and polluting done today. Come to daddy.

Well, I like to be optimistic too, but your "Google has been extremely clear and consistent" doesn't really add anything to the conversation.

I mean, you're only consistent until the point where you stop being consistent. We all just hope this point hasn't come for Android. Only time will tell.

Look at Apple. All iPhone had ever been released on June. And boy, have they been consistent on that one. Granted, they have never been clear about it, but still, the 4S was released a week ago.

Well, even GPL code doesn't all fall under one rule. For instance, all the code they've written under the GPL doesn't need to be released under the GPL if Google is the sole copyright owner. They could choose to relicense to another license anytime they choose.

I have to say I was a bit worried. After the last Android not being open and this "no comment", something dark was around the corner. I'll really be relieved when they'll release the source code for good.

The good being stolen here are not the lines of code, you are correct.

However, what copyright grants is the exclusivity to distribute. This is effectively stolen since whenever someone copies the stuff without your consent, you do not have the exclusivity anymore.

So, no, the lines of code were not stolen. But the excusivity to distribute was.

Definitely irrational, I agree with you.

Much like fear of the airplanes is irrational, since it's the safest way to travel (ahead of trains, cars, buses and motorcycle). But in an airplane you're not in control and if the plane falls, you're toast. Not true for others means of transportation.

I think (memory speaking here) that someone successfully started a Mercedes by inserting a CD with a virus on it in the CD player. No key or anything else involved.

I can see Sony from here: We'll stop all your cars unless you pay your royalties! We 0wn you 'cause you bought the latest Britney Spears album !
