Comment Re:Updates should never be forced (Score 1) 142

Automatic updates on Linux are a completely idiotic idea, that's why they aren't usually used. Some updates may require manual configuration during or after update, fully automatic updates will surely, sooner or later, break something important.
But I have to admit, much more worse than automatic updates are those idiots who don't keep their systems up-to-date and fail to instaall updates for themselves. So which of the two evils do we choose?

The problem with software today when your browser, a darn web browser dictates what computer / cpu you can use.

No, I'd say you are wrong. That's a problem only if you are inflexible and MAKE it a problem. Some points:
1) Chrome is not the only browser in the world.
2) Anyone running Windows on these 'ancient' CPU's (Personally, I consider an 'ancient CPU' being something like 6502 or Z80) and connecting it to internet is an utter, complete moron.
3) If you use open source software, that will never be a problem; you can always compile the program in question to suit your CPU. Well, trying to compile Chromium on a 15-year old 32-bit CPU would probably take a whole week, but the possibility is there...
