Comment Re:Windows XP? (Score 0) 434

We're talking about students of tommorrow, not today. Sure, today XP is still viable, but its days are very numbered. To train tommorrows workforce you need the latest technology, so they can hit the streets as up-to-date as possible. Windows 7 with Visual Studio 2010. Or at least the latest Ubuntu and any most recent release compiler. Training kids for yesterday's technology doesn't do anyone any good.

Decency Group Says "$#*!" Is Indecent 821

The Parents Television Council says the "$#*!" in the title of the upcoming CBS show $#*! my dad says is indecent. From the article: "'CBS intentionally chose to insert an expletive into the actual name of a show, and, despite its claim that the word will be bleeped, it is just CBS's latest demonstration of its contempt for families and the public,' declared PTC President Tim Winter. 'There are an infinite number of alternatives that CBS could have chosen, but its desire to shock and offend is crystal clear in this decision.'" By this logic Qbert was the filthiest game ever made.

Happy Towel Day 122

An anonymous reader writes "While Douglas Adams continues his attempt to set a new record for the longest extended lunch break, geeks all over the universe pay tribute to the beloved author by celebrating the tenth edition of Towel Day. Towel Day is more alive than ever. This year Richard Dawkins, one of Adams' best friends, has tweeted a Towel Day reminder to his numerous followers. The CERN Bulletin has published an article on Towel Day. There has been TV coverage and there will be a radio interview. The Military Republic of the Deltan Imperium, a newly formed micronation, has recognized Towel Day as an official holiday. In Hungary several hundreds of hitchhiker fans want to have a picnic together in a park. And there's a concert, a free downloadable nerdrap album, a free game being released, the list goes on and on."

Tabnapping Scams Around the Corner? 362

scamdetect pointed us to an interesting bit of news about a new security risk called tabnapping that was recently outlined by Aza Raskin. The short story is that background tabs are updated with login forms impersonating the sites they originally contained, but hosted by helpful third parties primarily interested in your password. Comment Other solutions? How fast is it really? (Score 0) 224

I wonder if just putting 4 Gig of super fast cache memory would have the same affect, or at least something similar? I'm going to wait for the high end drives like this. The one's that will have the faster flash memory. Just like current SSD drives, some are faster than others. Sometimes quite a bit faster. Seems to me if the flash memory doesn't have much better throughput than the normal hard drive's sustained throughput rate, then it's not worth much except for seek time improvements. So I hope to see soon what the real throughput rate is for the flash memory part of this drive is.
