I miss the Apple that made great hardware (although a little bit overpriced), and a nice OS to go with it. The iPhone/iPad/AppStore/iTunes/we-control-the-device-even-if-you-bought-it Apple that has put Macs and OS X to the background is not so nice and geeky anymore.

I agree, it's crap, and it's installed behind the scenes, IF you do a Next-Next-Next-Finish install. Just choose the Advanced/Custom/I-know-what-I'm-doing install option and you can deselect the toolbar. This is true for Skype and for most other toolbar-installing software.

I meant 3G (aka UMTS) mobile networks, not the iPhone 3G. It's not that easy to fake a 3G network, as it is a GMS one.

Chipset issue and Apple issue too. No matter how crappy the baseband, it shouldn't be able to tell my phone to record audio and transmit it later. BTW, this kind of attack should be impossible on 3G, but I guess GSM will still be around for many years.

Yeah, some mod could mod this funny, but it's actually sad but true... for some older ATMs at least. Nowadays I see quite a few running XP (you can see that on the back screen, if the ATM is in a place where you can see its back). But a few years ago I've seen a crashed ATM and it had plain MS-DOS. Then I remembered that I've used once an ATM of that particular bank, and that it seemed to me that the fonts looked just like the BGI fonts (Borland Graphics Interface - those who used Borland Pascal/C++ during the '90s know what I'm talking about), so I'm pretty sure that ATM was running plain DOS with some graphical app coded in Borland Pascal or C++ on it.

In theory Vista and 7 have EFI support... Anyway, what I meant with the question is that how would Apple handle such a request. I guess the answer would be something like: "Sorry, it's a package deal".

This brings up the question: can I buy a Mac and then request a refund of the full retail price of Mac OS X, stating that I decline the OS X SLA (Software License Agreement, as they call it)?
