Comment No more pro account for me (Score 1) 869

I had a Pro account with Flickr but I had some other issues with Flickr that caused me to allow it to lapse. In the meantime I've been checking out other sites, and the one that seems most Flickr-like without the culture of censorship running it behind the scenes is iPernity.

If you're in the US, due to currency exchange rates their equivalent of a Pro account costs a bit more but it's still pretty reasonable.

I went to Disneyworld in 1984 with my parents, where I got a Pirates of the Carribean toy pistol. I had it in my carry-on bag and was stopped at the gate. The toy had to be surrendered before I could board the plane. The TSA sucks and should be eliminated, but please, let's not pretend that this is unusual or new.

I don't own a Blu Ray player. I briefly owned an HDTV but went back to the old analog TV. Sorry, but I'm opting out. The digital entertainment revolution today isn't selling anything that I'm buying. If that means I miss out on things, so be it.

When it was easy to back up a DVD, I legitimately purchased over 600 movies. As the copy protections became increasingly difficult to work around, I simply stopped buying. Hollywood stopped getting my money. I took all that money that I was spending on DVD's and bought a motorcycle instead. Now instead of sitting on the couch wasting 90-120 minutes of my life at a time, I'm spending that time enjoying getting around (rain or shine) like never before.

It's been a year since I ditched the HDTV and maybe 2 years since I stopped buying DVD's. I don't miss it.

Before the market realizes the dilution of the dollar's value from Mr. Obama's previous "visions" (we call them "hallucinations" here), he's going to keep printing and spending Federal Reserve Notes with wild abandon on things we don't even need.

Millions of people will have money taken from them to fund a train that will be used by thousands. If this concept made sense, the private sector would have done it already. It doesn't make sense.

The upshot of all of this is that we may finally get the revolution we've been waiting for. The tree of liberty is parched!

Device Keeps Lungs Breathing Outside the Body 74

Al writes "A new system that keeps lungs breathing outside the body could improve the chances of a successful transplant. The Toronto XVIVO Lung Perfusion System, developed at Toronto General Hospital, can keep a pair of human lungs slowly breathing inside a glass dome attached to a ventilator, pump, and filters. The lungs are maintained at normal body temperature of 37 C and perfused with a bloodless solution that contains nutrients, proteins, and oxygen. The organs can be kept alive in the machine for up to 12 hours while surgeons assess function and repair them. See a video of the system keeping a pair of lungs alive."
