My copy of Advanced MS-DOS Programming: The Microsoft Guide for Assembly Language and C Programmers (1986; ISBN 0-914845-77-2) is a bit old. It only covers through DOS 3.2. Do you think it'll be adequate fo DOS 4.00?

Purchased in August, 2013, still in use today, although its 2nd-generation i3 is more than a bit long in the tooth. Current desktop is an HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini with a 6th-gen i5 picked up refurbished on Amazon back in August, 2020. I figure it's got at least another year before I get the urge to replace it.

My KUU Yobook-M is not a Linux laptop. It's a budget laptop. And both Fedora and Ubuntu installed without complaints. But sound doesn't work in Linux (it does in Windows)

Well, most weren't but some of us were. I've always been a morning person, and I always tried to schedule an 8:00 class. My first term in college, all of my classes met in the morning except for an afternoon physics lab. Which meant I'd be getting back to the doem for lunch about the time my roommate was waking up.

Perhaps the lessons learned from using mainframes need to be relearned every successive generation or two.

Plug in (or connect via Bluetooth to) a monitor and a keyboard, and let the phone function as a trackpad, thus eliminating the need for a mouse in many (most?) circumstances. All that's left to supply is a decent OS

I don't know about a 10K sq ft home, but having lived in an 1100 sq ft apartment, I can say that a bit of extra space is easy to utilize

I camp in my minivan. But I just take along a laptop, not a whole office. And I only do it for a few weeks at a time.
