laejoh writes: Brussels, 06/07/2021 – Today, the European Parliament approved the ePrivacy Derogation, allowing providers of e-mail and messaging services to automatically search all personal messages of each citizen for presumed suspect content and report suspected cases to the police. The European Pirates Delegation in the Greens/EFA group strongly condemns this automated mass surveillance, which effectively means the end of privacy in digital correspondence. Pirate Party MEPs plan to take legal action.

Submission + - SPAM: Start-up of the 1st EuroHPC petascale supercomputer

laejoh writes: We kindly invite you to the start-up ceremony for the Vega – the largest supercomputer in Slovenia and the first installed EuroHPC supercomputer. Vega is a 1-billion EUR project that placed Slovenia on the map of the European supercomputing ecosystem. The Vega project is an investment of 17.2 million EUR. It is co-funded by the European Union form the European Regional Development Fund, Slovenian Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking.

The Vega supercomputer will enable Slovene and European scientists to cooperate in large international research projects and additionally accelerate the development of science and economy. It is an extremely important investment for Eastern Slovenia, the entire country of Slovenia, and Europe as well.

The ceremony will take place on 20 April at 15:30 in the Institute of Information Science, Maribor (IZUM), where the supercomputer Vega is installed.
