An anonymous reader writes: New guidelines have been put forward to the Japanese government to advance embryonic research beyond today’s imposed limits and allow a chimeric embryo to be implanted into the womb of an animal and grown into a working human organ. If accepted, they would replace the existing restrictions within 12 months. After that, human organs can start to be grown and the process perfected for an actual transplant to occur.
The animal most likely to be used for organ growth is a pig, and the first human organ to be grown would be a pancreas. If successful, it means people with diabetes will benefit first. Then scientists can start growing and perfecting more complex organs, such as the human heart and kidneys.

The Xbox One would have been just fine despite the chorus of haters, would have been a better system for ignoring them. Microsoft losing its nerve on this isn't just disappointing for the features we lose. It's unfortunate because it shows just how heavy an anchor we can be." Of course, whether that 'always on' system would have stayed on when XBox Two arrived isn't specified. But, really, I can't imagine Microsoft doing that...

That's true but Blu-Ray drives are a lot more likely to fail than a flash card reader. This generation of consoles are very prone to breaking(except the Wii) I want the next generation to have better reliability.

I was hoping for opitcal to be ditched in the next gen and for the industry to move onto flash media fully. By the time these consoles comes out 16GB of flash media will be pretty cheap.

A survey of American voters by World Public Opinion shows that Fox News viewers are significantly more misinformed than consumers of news from other sources. One of the most interesting questions was about President Obama's birthplace. 63 percent of Fox viewers believe Obama was not born in the US (or that it is unclear). In 2003 a similar study about the Iraq war showed that Fox viewers were once again less knowledgeable on the subject than average. Let the flame war begin!

"Gamers who download upcoming PC exclusive The Witcher 2 illegally could receive a letter demanding they pay a fine or face legal action. If gamers refuse to pay the fine, which will be more than the cost of the game, they could end up in court, developer CD Projekt told Eurogamer. 'Of course we're not happy when people are pirating our games, so we are signing with legal firms and torrent sneaking companies,' CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwiski said. 'In quite a few big countries, when people are downloading it illegally they can expect a letter from a legal firm saying, "Hey, you downloaded it illegally and right now you have to pay a fine." We are totally fair, but if you decide you will not buy it legally there is a chance you'll get a letter. We are talking about it right now.' Players will be able to fly around the galaxy in their own personal starships, avoiding asteroid belts, landing in dangerous territory and battling other vessels. The initial news makes it sound like a cross between Mass Effect's galaxy map and a traditional space fighting game, where players will have to find 'hotspots' on the galaxy map in order to enter a particular zone."
