Ontario School Bans Wi-Fi 287

St. Vincent Euphrasia elementary school in Meaford, Ont. is the latest Canadian school to decide to save its students from the harmful effects of Wi-Fi by banning it. Schools from universities on down have a history of banning Wi-Fi in Ontario. As usual, health officials and know-it-all scientists have called the move ridiculous. Health Canada has released a statement saying, "Wi-Fi is the second most prevalent form of wireless technology next to cell phones. It is widely used across Canada in schools, offices, coffee shops, personal dwellings, as well as countless other locations. Health Canada continues to reassure Canadians that the radiofrequency energy emitted from Wi-Fi equipment is extremely low and is not associated with any health problems."

However, what is up with the obvious story troll? Are the /. numbers low today?

"...what is up with the obvious story troll?"

This is what the author was referring to when he mentioned "...the fierce ideology of the open-source community...". Dismissing non-believers as heretics/trolls makes you an ideologue and renders the platform unattractive to regular users. Your natural reaction to this will be to dismiss regular users as not worthy of Linux but nobody wants to adopt a platform that gets them trashed by smelly, overbearing, slogan-yelling hippies.

Thanks asshole.

Stats Show iPhone Owners Get More Sex 397

An anonymous reader writes "According to OK Cupid's survey of 552,000 user pictures iPhone users have more sexual partners than BlackBerry or Android owners. By age 30, the average male iPhone user has had about 10 partners while female iPhone users have had 12. By contrast, BlackBerry users hover around 8 partners and Android users have a mere 6. As the blog's author's wryly observe: 'Finally, statistical proof that iPhone users aren't just getting f*@ked by Apple.'"

Girl Quits On Dry Erase Board a Hoax 147

suraj.sun writes "It's the same old story: young woman quits, uses dry erase board and series of pictures to let entire office know the boss is a sexist pig, exposes his love of playing FarmVille during work hours." Story seem too good to be true? It probably is, at least according to writer Peter Kafka. Even so, Jay Leno and Good Morning America have already reached out to "Jenny."

A guy is given the power to shoot people, but not to blog or buy a beer (if he's under 21). Seems like a mixed message.

They're only allowed to shoot people on command.

You really have no idea exactly how much the average Marine is trusted with awesome responsibilities do you? Try going out and finding the truth instead of just spouting what your faggity little friends vapidly repeat at the coffehouse.

Submission + - Cyberwar - Where do your loyalties lie?

jxs2151 writes: "It's the year 2013 and the world is fully involved in the first open 'cyberwar' in history. The Chinese are disrupting PC's with massive virus attacks, Russia is disabling satellites, the US is spreading nanobots throughout the world, Europe is in the grips of a medical panic as instruments in hospitals cease to work. Jihadis are shutting down websites left and right. Online banking is impossible and commerce is slowly grinding to a halt. Normal communications become strained as the load on the infrastructure increases. There is no way to tell how it all started. Your country calls on your skills and talents. What do you do? Where do your loyalties lie?"
