I have numerous Windows apps for interfacing with radio communications hardware that don't appear to have Linux equivalents. Not sure that an emulator would perform adequately, nor whether I'd have difficulties accessing external hardware via USB & serial ports. I feel trapped in the Windows environment :(

Iâ(TM)m no techniphobe, and I think crewed moon missions may have some benefit, but why do we continue to expend huge amounts of money & vast resources on a project that is utterly infeasible? There is as yet no solution to fundamental constraints on such a mission, including Water Oxygen Radiation Emergency return (health emergency, for example) Human interaction (cooped up >year) The cynic in me suspects that, so long as large aerospace firms are raking in the bucks, this charade will continue.

Comment Lithium on the way out? (Score 1) 67

I'm not up on the latest details regarding battery chemistry, but is it likely that sodium-based batteries will replace lithium batteries in the near future? Reason I ask is, we have a lithium battery manufacturer ramping up operations in town, and they claim they'll eventually hire thousands of people (which would be a great shot in the arm to this rust belt town) - but I wonder if sodium (or the next thing that comes along) will destroy the hopes of the local population that's counting on this plant's success.

Mostly agree with your sentiment, but it may not be true that "There are no Marxists these days, and there haven't been for a very long time." When I attended Binghamton University a couple of decades ago, at least two of the departments (sociology and anthropology) had avowed Marxists on the faculty, and (primarily at the graduate level) explicitly used Marxist terms and concepts in their teaching. I know that Binghamton University was far from alone at the time. I don't know whether that is a trend that passed, or whether some academics still utilize a Marxist paradigm.

Comment Could be a godsend (Score 1) 134

I rely on the only BASIC app I've ever found that's compatible with my iPhone, "cbmHandBasic", a Commodore BASIC emulator (!) that's ancient, and I worry about it's long-term compatibility with iOS (I have complicated equations related to my job in RF electronics that my custom programs simplify; I'm not a programmer, but I learned BASIC back in high school in the 1970's - and I've got too much else going on in life to start learning a more modern programming language, given that BASIC suits my needs). This might be the answer to long-term compatibility, BUT: After downloading it and executing it, I see no command prompt nor other method of inputting my own code (I see a lot of available pre-written programs). I assume there's documentation somewhere (haven't located it yet), but attempting to reach the official site currently results in a "509 Bandwidth Limit Exceeded" error (no doubt testimony to its immediate popularity).
