Submission + - Smart Meters under attack (chicagotribune.com)

wb8nbs writes: Florida patent troll Atlas LLC has filed a suit against the municipality of Naperville, Illinois. Atlas claims infringement of their patent on wireless communication where a hub node controls remote node responses. In 2011-2013 Naperville, which owns the local electrical utility network, installed Smart Meters on nearly all customers in it's serving area, a move that was bitterly opposed by a small group of residents. The Naperville Smart Meter network uses Zigbee protocol to return readings to their fiber optic collection network. The Atlas suit could have long range implications to the Internet of Things, but it appears they have sued and lost a similar case in Florida.

Maybe they can figure out why my C-Max makes a loud tone out the speakers when the engine is at exactly 2380 RPM. This car has an Active Noise Cancellation processor with several microphones and it is going berserk. Some Fusions get the same oscillation.

Apparently Ford decided it was cheaper to put in a DSP than to add sound insulation.

Comment I had *exactly* the same experience. (Score 1) 464

Tried them, hated them, set them aside. Could not even maintain focus across a single line of newspaper column. If simple fixed readers work, just use a 15 dollar pair from the drug store. I have found drug store glasses vary quite a bit in quality though so shop around.

That said, complain to the optometrist, they may be able to remake the lenses with a physically larger reading area. They might not charge you for it if you are truly dissatisfied with what you got.
