Comment Water? (Score 1) 113

I thought the big problem right now was not the availability of simple sugars, but the fact that it takes a quite a few gallons of water to make one gallon of ethanol.
I know that people do all sorts of bullshit inflation of the number of gallons of water, where they factor in the irrigation of the crops and all, but it still takes a lot of water to make those simple sugars into ethanol.
Yet, this magical Panda Poo enzyme might come in handy since it can turn inedible plant matter to humans into fuel. Say we turn in the corn stalks, or the enourmous amount of leaves collected every Fall into fuel. Maybe someday there won't be famines, we can ship all our excess grain to the hungry with the power of Panda Poo!

I think it's screwed up that foreign workers have to pay into a retirement system they will never see a nickle from. I also think young people today paying into a system that we have no faith in is screwed up. It should be an optional system.

The only reason I can think of is if you are running a business and want to dodge taxes. It'd also be a good way to hide money from say, selling drugs.
On a side note, I believe it is still illegal to make your own currency in the US. I don't see the government spending too many man hours solving this. If the claim is real, I think that person will never see that cash again.

Patent laws are a joke. This is just the weekly posting on some completely ridiculous thing that has passed as a patent. These types of patents only helps companies squash their competitors. Itâ(TM)s a shitty group of laws that people can bend to monopolize a marketplace. Unfortunately the people with the money influence who makes and reforms the laws, so expect more outrageous patent attempts and successful filings.

Why didn't you revert to Netware?

The word came down from management that Exchange/Outlook was going to be the way of the future. So we needed a domain server, a Exchange server and a couple of file servers. Of course our Novell server did this all in one machine, and did it a hell of a lot faster.
Novell didn't go out of style because of poor design, it went out of style because Microsoft put more advertising out and convinced more users in upper management that it was the best thing out there.
All of a sudden there was this if it isn't 'Windows on Intel it's crap mentatlity' that made Microsoft what it is.
