Comment Wait, Airpods have cell service? (Score 1) 164

Do airpods have cell cards to be able to transmit their gps location and data through a cell network? How do they "phone home" to be able to tattle on where they are? Ive never heard that they have this functionality beyond the range of bluetooth of the device they are paired with. Did the thieves attempt to pair them with their phone? Im curious.

Still, they found them on the street outside of the home. Surprised I haven't seen this on the local news.

Sadly yes, iTunes is still a thing. I manage a lot of Idevices and when people leave the company, almost no one does the required disable find my phone and wipe the things. So we have to use iTunes to wipe and update the phone to redeploy. I think that the pictures and videos are only one way and you canâ(TM)t write to the device otherwise. Not like an android where you can use it as a usb device and save things to it.

Why do you need a SUV? Or a pick up if you don't work with it?

There are plenty of reason to have a SUV or truck.
Camping/glamping, boating, hunting, weekend trips, snow, off-roading and as others have mentioned home DYI or whatever you might need to load in the vehicle without making structural changes to your car.
You need room for coolers, dry foods, backpacks, tents, suitcases, towing a camper, firewood or whatever you want to bring on your trip. Your Audio would have you stacking crap on your roof and you still couldn't fit everything that a single person might want to bring along. I dont even want to think of a small Audi towing a boat, camper or a small trailer.
Those are some valid reasons why people would need an SUV or truck. Others have mentioned more.
Most years I take atleast a dozen weekend or longer trips to family land then there are the occasional further out trips. A car is too small for the things I need to bring along. I also have plenty of home use situations. Plenty of things that do not fit in to a small vehicle.

You don't have to use a Microsoft account on any version of windows 11 that I have setup for family, friends or at work. This included the home version and up. Just disconnect the machine from the network on your first boot after installing the OS. Use Libre office to get around the office licensing, use rufus to build your OS install usb drive (you can even set it to ignore the tpm requirement), once you have created a local account turn off the notifications for account protection in windows security then you can connect it to the network and run your updates.

I am not a fan of windows 11 and its been forced on our work computers. I just deal with it. Lots of issues with the new crappy menus...

I know something needs to be done to keep our rivers and lakes clean. We need to stop using crap that is toxic to, well, everything. I have a interest in this as I find fishing relaxing, enjoyable and tasty. I've been fishing as far back as I can remember and still go on week + long trips to enjoy everything about it.

I did look at their pdf and the testing locations because I was curious about where my family and I fish. The testing sites seem to be tilted toward places near large cities and eastern US. St. Louis is their main testing area in Missouri, yet only one spot in Kansas City. Those are probably the two dirtiest areas in Missouri. Though I do see that the great lakes are a problem almost everywhere on this side of the border. I wouldn't eat anything going down the Mississippi. They don't call it the muddy Mississippi for nothing...

Ive been to most of the best trout fishing areas in Missouri and they didn't test the two biggest springs or several of the lakes that I have been to for carp and bass. Here is a short list:

Table rock (branson)
Mark Twain (Hannibal)
Harry S Truman (Warsaw)
Bennet springs (Lebanon)
Montauk springs(Salem)

None of those lakes/springs/rivers were tested. It looks like they got a small part of the Meramec and Missouri rivers near St Louis but nothing else. So maybe they need to expand their testing. There are hundreds more stream and probably thousands more lakes, albeit small, they should be testing. That's just Missouri. There are large areas of the western US that look to be untested. So I would like more information.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were higher levels but I don't have the data to say good or bad.

Anyway, we always should try to keep things clean. We have done enough and its time to clean up for ourselves.

When speaking of cars, lifetime typically means the life of the vehicle while with the original owner. Like the lifetime warranties for specific things that are often sold with cars. They only apply to the owner who purchased it and it does not transfer to new owners. Each buyer will have to purchase their own license to use those features that have already been activated by a previous owner. So no, it probably wont increase the value of the car.

Its probably that they organized their racks by customer. This customer gets these racks together this one get those etc. While it does make it easier to physically and logically manage things, it does reduce the redundancy in this case. You would need to spread the customers boxes out and completely mix them up to prevent this situational outage. Would there be an discernable difference in fiber latency going say a football field size distance, additional switches, etc? Maybe there are technical reason why the machines are physically near each other. I'm kind of surprised that they didn't have the generators in a separate building or have better fire suppression and detection system. Usually our large generators are in their own secure building away from where the power is being used. That or we bring in a generator and connect it outside of the building to a big port that leads to our UPS's.
