Summary: I love how easy it is to get started. Very graphical based, drill down to the component level to see your connections. Easy to get exports of any data from the system. Easy to show new users how to get in and find their devices.

Positive: I have used this software for 9 years, done 2 ground up creations for my last 2 jobs. The initial training they provide before you even get your database started, helps your staff hit the ground running to get your database built, accurately and with the fields you want from the beginning. Their support to take your current information and transform it into NetTerrain was always available.
To create new items, it as simple as searching the catalog, by node type/ rack type/ or device, by manufacturer or model, click and drag it into the center screen. Then click in the property fields for name, serial number, asset tag, and whatever other data you wish to track and enter your information.
I am using my knowledge of VBA in Excel to help create bulk import spreadsheets to reduce our time of documentation. I am also using that knowledge to take the exports from NetTerrain to provide information to stakeholders as to what we have, where and what is available for future growth.
The "Search" function is tremendous. You put in a minimum of a 3 character string and it will look for that string anywhere, in any filed of the entire database and give you links to each instance. Any of the searches can be exported to Excel for future reference.
The customer support after purchase does not falter. The system comes with a standard catalog of racks, devices, infrastructure, and cards. It also has some built in queries that can be used. As your project grows, you can request new devices, reports or dashboards from Graphical Networks to add to your application. You also have the capability of creating and adding your own queries or items for your catalog.
The company cares about their customers and wants to hear from the customer base. They have at least annual meetings with the customers to unveil new improvements. They also ask the customers to come with 2 dream improvements for the software. Many of these improvements have been added.
Our company wanted the ability to audit their assets in racks. NetTerrain did not have that functionality. But it was created in a mobile application 2 years later.
Our license allows for unlimited read only users, so our network, storage, server and mainframe teams can access the system and see what they have, where connections are going and what they have available.

Negative: They post release dates for new versions. They have never met that date. But that also means they have made sure the software is not broken when they send it out to the customers. I have never had to do a break/fix patch to any version of NetTerrain.
For the physical layer side of your data center, all entry is manual, either click and enter or through a spreadsheet inport. So the data is only as accurate as your team that is doing updates.

Summary: netTerrain is a really valuable part of our IT documentation and an amazing tool that we use for many different reasons. It gives us one place to keep detailed infrastructure information while also making it easy to visually understand how everything is laid out and connected. We use it regularly and I would definitely recommend it.

Positive: We use netTerrain to document our environment, including racks, devices, switches, ports, cabling, power connections, equipment information, and how everything connects. The visual side is especially useful when working with non-technical staff or the managerial members who might need the visual aids when looking at disaster recovery documentation. The same applies with outside vendors who need an overview of our infrastructure and layout.

Negative: No real complaints from us. Initial setup takes some time, and occasionally I found a device that wasn't in the catalog, but the netTerrain team was quick to inform me that you can request those devices to be added, and the turn-around is fast. Support is responsive, and the regular updates and new features are great!

Summary: NT is great. Support is great! You are able to get a ton of granularity from your builds. Links, what goes where and how it connects. It's a smart tool that you can tailor to your organization.

Positive: Doing this way works for multiple reasons. Visualization helps with "accounting" from an operations standpoint. I can tell who has what where at a glance. Thats helpful for us. Another helper here is pulling reports based on device types and activity. This helps our actual accounting when the inventories need to be run. Asset Tags! Asset Tags! Asset Tags! The IT side hustle.

Negative: Devices. You need to Audit before. You need to have devices in NT to get this to work. Very workable problem. With a little training, you can create your own devices and model them as you see fit.

Cost. It can get pricey.

Summary: The Graphical Networks netTerrain DCIM SaaS service with netTerrain OSP Fiber Management that we use is an extremely valuable and powerful tool at an exceptional price point.

Positive: The ability to create and customize Nodes/Racks/Devices/Links quickly and easily for yourself, without the need for hours/days of training. Or submit a list of items to netTerrain and have their support team generate these for your to easily upload into your project.

Documenting every aspect and component of our network with netTerrain has been a game changer!!

Negative: Nothing specific comes to mind! I'm sure there's some addition features that would make things even better.

Summary: I'm very happy with the choice of my company to by this product and with the support I get on it....

Positive: It's very visual and intuitive to understand. Objects that are unavailable can be added yourself or you could ask support.

Negative: I'm lacking a clear versioning. Sometimes you want to go back in time to check how things where connected before.

Summary: I liked all points of using NetTerrain. I have not seen a program with as much power or versatility as netTerrain...
At Conrail, we use all types of comm. Radio/ Fiber and ethernet are all utilized for our comms. I used this program to build a large fiber network. All employees can see the completed network.

Positive: Jason was very thorough and explained using links in a way that is quick and efficient.
Overall, I like all facets of NetTerrain. There are multiple ways of completing tasks. Very versatile.

Negative: All things considered, I do not have any cons at all. There is always a way to complete a task.

Summary: I bought this software in 2011. Since then, I have expressed my issues with the software to GN team. They have been the most responsive team and have implemented many changes I have suggested. They will work with you so your Project can be fully realized. Great Product. Great Company.

Positive: The ability to drill down for greater detail.
Discovery feature: Mapping your network.
Adding needed tools, pictures, and objects.
Port level connections.

Negative: Free drawing ability not fully realized. They have added the ability to draw a free lines and shapes.
Only one Project can be created.

Summary: The best Jerry! The Best!

Positive: The sales staff and support are more than excellent. They stick with you every step of the way in the process. When the subscription came due they didn't just send a bill they called to make sure all was well. Very hometown approach.

Negative: That we didn't have it sooner. Also how our new company acquisition doesn't use it YET!

Summary: It's been a satisfying experience; you just need to be clear about the initial concepts. Of course, if they teach you, it saves you hours of work.

Positive: It's a very intuitive, versatile, and powerful program, with numerous applications for implementing the various departments of a data center.

Negative: You need to understand the levels at which each element is implemented.
