The OS is a single function that provides strong guarantees to app developers: automatic persistence and memory management; repeatable builds; and support for hot-code reloading. Urbit envisions a connected world that is more friendly than the early Internet, when collaboration and collegial discussion were the norm. Problems that cannot be solved without large-scale political centralization of the internet today - data breaches and spam, fake reviews malware-spreading, harassment, etc. - can be made manageable if individuals take back control of their computing.
