Version control is about knowing the history of your work progress. To really see and review the history, you need to be able see and verify what has happened between two points in time. For example, what has changed between two versions of your product or what was done to fix a problem. TortoiseMerge is a great tool to help you do this. It is a Windows diff/merge tool with tight integration for TortoiseSVN. TortoiseMerge is able to help you with files that contain text. It displays the two versions of a file side by side and colors every modified line. Sometimes you don't actually change any code or text when you reformat it. Other times you only split long lines into multiple lines or merge multiple lines into one. These changes are marked by TortoiseMerge with a white circle in the left gray bar. If you see a white circle on the left gray bar, it means that there were no changes made. It is only whitespace changes.
