CentOS Linux is functionally compatible with RHEL. The CentOS Project changes packages primarily to remove artwork and branding from upstream vendors. CentOS Linux is free and available at no cost. Each CentOS version will be maintained until the RHEL version that is equivalent goes out of support. Once a new RHEL version has been rebuilt, a new CentOS version will be made available. This happens approximately every 6-12months for minor version bumps and several years for major versions. The rebuild can take anywhere from weeks for point releases to several months for major version bumps. This creates a stable, reliable, predictable, reproducible Linux environment that is easy to maintain.

Standard version comes with all the software you need for daily use and is based upon Debian. The Core version is a stripped-down version of Debian Stable that allows you to build your own system or run it with low-spec hardware such as arm-boards. Netrunner uses KDE Plasma, and has tuned it to be as responsive and snappy as possible. Netrunner offers a variety of Window- and Desktop-Themes that you can customize right away. We use the Aurorae-3 engine from KWin for most of our Window Themes. This allows blurring and transparency even on low-end computers.
