Security Gateway for Email Servers by MDaemon Edited: Mar 15 2022
Summary: MDaemon's Security Gateway, or "SG", has become one of the most important software services on the edge of our corporate network.
SG enables us to manage our email traffic for Multiple Domains with ease. We use it with HCL Domino, Zimbra, MDaemon, and Exchange email servers and a variety of web applications that need to send and receive email directly.
The SG provides very high visibility for email traffic to and from our internal email servers. This visibility also shows failed "hacking" and penetration attempts, SPF decoding, and lots of other cool details!
It is also very easy to manage security features. The Help documentation is well written and MDaemon's technical support is also very good.
Managing security features, like access/deny lists, can be automated through standard API calls. This enables us to develop our own software utilities to parse the SG logs and dynamically adjust the SG's access/deny lists and also use the information to dynamically adjust our firewall rules to block hacks and penetration attempts.
Overall, Security Gateway is great value software and easy to install and manage!Positive: * Very detailed and Easy to View activity and Manage all its features
* API for interfacing with configuration data and security access control lists
* Reliable!!
* Small foot print for what it does and very good performance
* Runs unattended with months of up time
* Easy to install upgrades and updates
* Provides a robust set of capabilities and security features that can fine tuned. The default configurations are sane too!
* Multiple Domains and User Accounts can be managed easily
* Works with any Email Server
* Can be hosted in virtual machines (local and cloud)Negative: * Installs and runs in Microsoft Windows only. However, it can be run in a Windows virtual machine in any host OS.

* The main user interface is through a web browser. Using a browser means the logs and charts are not updated in "real time" with the traffic. Manual refresh is required (for my browser) but it is very good performance. I guess I still like good old fashioned desktop applications!
* Licensing/Pricing is User Account based. This limits the ability to have wild-card aliases to "catch all" inbound email (if that is something you want to do)
* A "Personal" limited free or almost free version would be nice B-)
