Orbital Stack Description

Orbital Stack, an AI and CFD web-based program, provides earlier qualitative guidance. It compares a wide range of land-use options and shapes, and highlights any red flags. It allows for climate-conscious, high performance developments that are not possible with traditional studies.

Orbital Stack was developed by world-renowned experts in microclimate engineering and wind. It is a game-changer in the architecture and building design industry, providing our clients direct access for wind comfort and safety analysis as well as thermal comfort and shadowing analysis and cladding pressure simulations. This allows architects to quickly understand the climate effects of their proposed building designs and make better decisions, resulting in more resilient and high-performing projects.

    Thermal Comfort CFD

    Date: Apr 14 2023

Summary: Really great team and expertise for a hard problem to solve. the fact that you can also reach out to other experts on wind analysis within RWDI that makes it even better.

Positive: Fast and easy to integrate to project with a wide range of options. Computational fluid dynamics is a hard problem to solve and they are solving this at scale!

Negative: No download of data which makes it a bit hard to integrate to other tools.

    Perfect

    Date: Apr 12 2023

Summary: Efficient, seamless. this tool has an opportunity to be a dominant yet unassuming tool for all architects and urban designers out there. it would be preferable to have a per project pricing offer.

Positive: Excellent tool; clear step by step process. Nice division between sets analysis. Nice interface, easy to step between options. Multiple ways to graphically show your analysis.

Negative: UX needs a bit of work at downloading the graphics content.

    An impressive tool.

    Date: Apr 19 2023

Summary: The overall experience using the tool so far has been wonderful, and I highly recommend Orbital Stack to the firms in AEC industry.

Positive: The user interface and visualizations of the results are pretty neat. The technical support team is quite responsive, and I find that my queries have always been resolved at the earliest.

Negative: As the software is on the preliminary stages of operations, there are a few limitations if compared to similar programs available in the market. But, I am sure, they are constantly upgrading the engine for better user control and experience.

Orbital Stack - Fast and reliable pedestrian wind comfort analysis

    Date: Apr 13 2023

Summary: Using advanced AI models trained on extensive wind data collected by RWDI, this software helps our us enhance the pedestrian comfort design of our urban environments. The software accounts for factors such as wind speed, direction, and surrounding structures. it has an intuitive user interface which is visually appealing, easy to navigate and makes it accessible to all our staff. Users can quickly upload project-specific data and get analyze results in ~30 minutes. This helps run multiple iterations due to the quick feedback.

Positive: Speed of simulation is good and allows for multiple iterations in a short amount of time. The user interface is web based, very intuitive and does not involve any specialized training allowing all the staff the ability to use the platform as needed. The output graphics are very interesting and help convey the problem areas quickly . The graphics can be adjusted for specific time period as needed. The tech support is good and response is within an hour if you encounter any problems.

Negative: There is need for more refined analysis which would be helpful in all phases of the project. Currently the AI part of the software is helpful in early stage wind analysis, when big massing moves are being made. However the results are less helpful in later phases of the project when you are making small changes e.g. increasing screen wall height from 4' to 6' etc.

The software needs to allow for download of predicted windspeed and comfort data in spread sheet format. Currently this is not possible.

The base AI package does not generate the wind flow lines. it would be helpful to get this data in the base package. Currently the wind flow lines are part of the higher tiered Rapid CFD package.
