Mir Display Server Description

Mir on Ubuntu is the fastest way to deploy a digital signage display, information kiosk, home automation interface, or in-car entertainment stack. Mir is a system-level component which can be used for next-generation user experiences. It can be used on a variety of Linux-powered devices, including traditional desktops, IoT, and embedded products. Mir is a replacement to the X Window server system, which is commonly used on Linux desktops. It allows desktop users and device makers to have a well-defined, efficient and flexible platform for their graphical environment. The X windowing system has been the power behind Linux's graphical user interfaces. X has a long, successful history. It has been used for both application and system level UI for more than three decades. Users today expect a more consistent, integrated, and secure user experience than what is possible with the X windowing system.
