OS X Mountain Lion, the ninth version OS X, is Apple's operating system that runs on its desktops, laptops and servers. Mountain Lion was announced February 16, 2012, and released July 25, 2012 via the Mac App Store. Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion can be installed on older macOS systems that aren't compatible with the latest version. It requires the following: OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion 10.7 or Mountain Lion 10.8; some features may require a compatible Internet provider; fees may apply; some features require an Apple ID.
