At the outset, all tests for Apache Ant tasks were created as separate JUnit test cases. However, it soon became evident that many of these tests required common functionalities, such as reading a build file, setting up a project instance, and executing a target. This realization led to the creation of BuildFileTest, a foundational class for nearly all task test cases.
