    Absolutely no support!

    Date: Sep 30 2021

Summary: NO SUPPORT - AT ALL!!!

I have had an open trouble ticket with Grandstream for a serious bug for 1 year and 10 months!! I keep it updated. After a year of promising that their developers were looking into the issue they finally came clean and told me that they have no intention of doing any more work on the app.

Positive: I have used GS Wave for over 3 years, Overall GS Wave is about as good as a softphone app can get. It behaves similarly to the native dialer app in any cell phone. It does have some issues that I note below.

Overall however, it works brilliantly with external bluetooth systems. It has a good, intuitive user interface and generally is easy to use, provides great sound quality, etc.

Negative: Unfortunately, the app has a serious and random bug that affects operation on some phones regardless of make/model or OS.

For some unknown reason, on some smartphones, when the app is configured to register with an IPv4 address and the phone transitions from a WiFi connection to the mobile carrier network that has IPv4 and IPv6 addresses - the app will attempt to register with the PBX using the configured IPv4 address but will then only provide the PBX with IPv6 contact info which the PBX rightfully rejects.

The only way around this that I have found is to setup a VPN on my phone to my company's network, exit the GS Wave app and then restart it. Then it registers correctly using the configured IPv4 address and provides only IPv4 contact info in the registration request which is accepted by the PBX.

I find this bug particularly odd in that if the phone is operating on a WiFi network with both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses - the app always registers correctly using just the configured IPv4 info.

The bug is random in that you can install the app on your cell phone and it will work perfectly - transitioning between WiFi and cell networks both having IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and it will properly register with just IPv4 info. However, if you make a change to the account settings - randomly the bug will be triggered and once triggered you can never fix it again! You can totally delete the app and reinstall it - the bug will persist. You can even move from one cellphone to another and the bug will persist. This is likely due to the back configs that are saved in the cloud. The problem is maddening because the GS Wave softphone is superior in so many ways to every other softphone available and yet - Grandstream will simply not look into fixing this bug!!
