FreeOCR Description
FreeOCR is an optical character recognition software for Windows that supports scanning from most Twain scanners. It can also open most scanned PDFs and multi-page Tiff files as well as other image file formats. FreeOCR can output plain text and export directly to Microsoft Word format. Free OCR uses the Tesseract (v3.01 OCR engine). It comes with a Windows installer. It supports multi-page tiff, Adobe PDF and fax documents. It can also scan using Twain or WIA scanning drivers. Tesseract V3 is included in FreeOCR V4, which improves accuracy and provides page layout analysis, so you can get more precise results without having to use the zone selection tool. FreeOCR can scan images and save them as JPG. We are currently developing a "Scan To PDF" capability that allows you to save your image as a searchable PDF.
