Description
KVM, which stands for Kernel-based Virtual Machine, serves as a comprehensive virtualization solution for Linux systems operating on x86 hardware equipped with virtualization capabilities (such as Intel VT or AMD-V). It comprises a loadable kernel module, known as kvm.ko, that underpins the essential virtualization framework, along with a processor-specific module, either kvm-intel.ko or kvm-amd.ko. By utilizing KVM, users can operate several virtual machines that run unaltered Linux or Windows operating systems. Each virtual machine is allocated its own set of virtualized hardware components, including a network interface card, storage, graphics adapter, and more. KVM is an open-source project, with its kernel component integrated into the mainline Linux kernel since version 2.6.20, while the userspace aspect has been incorporated into the mainline QEMU project starting from version 1.3. This integration enables widespread deployment and support for various virtualization applications and services.
Description
Kernel Pack serves as a commercial command-and-control platform for Windows, equipped with a kernel agent specifically designed for authorized red-team activities and penetration testing. Its innovative DOG engine is capable of discovering and validating kernel data-only gadgets during runtime, while over 100 exploit backends grant kernel access and SYSTEM-level privileges. The platform offers a wide range of functionalities, including kernel memory access, manipulation of tokens and Process Privilege Levels (PPL), process management, control over Event Tracing for Windows (ETW), callback oversight, hijacking of System Service Descriptor Tables (SSDT) and Shadow SSDTs, as well as execution within Interrupt Descriptor Tables (IDT) and Global Descriptor Tables (GDT). Additionally, it allows for the manipulation of driver dispatch functions and supports workflows involving VTL0 and VTL1. Ultimately, Kernel Pack is meticulously crafted for red teams and penetration testers who are conducting controlled assessments of Windows kernel systems in a non-production environment. This makes it an essential tool for professionals in cybersecurity looking to enhance their testing capabilities.
