Description
Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) serves as a free and open-source platform for the modeling and visualization of flows influenced by fire. This computational fluid dynamics code effectively solves a variant of the Navier–Stokes equations tailored for low-speed, thermally-driven airflow, focusing particularly on the transport of smoke and heat resulting from fires. Employing large-eddy simulation, it captures the intricacies of fire-plume dynamics and can be utilized in diverse scenarios, such as those involving wind, sprinklers, ventilation systems, and various materials that affect fire behavior. Users create scenarios by utilizing text-based input files, execute the calculations within FDS, and subsequently evaluate the output data. The simulator presents results from both FDS and CFAST simulations through advanced OpenGL-based 3D graphics, incorporating scientific visualization techniques that include animated representations of smoke and tracer particles, two- and three-dimensional shaded contours, iso-surfaces, temperature distributions, and flow vectors that display both direction and intensity. In addition to these features, FDS is continually updated to enhance user experience and functionality, making it a vital tool for researchers and safety professionals alike.
Description
SimsUshare is a comprehensive platform designed for fire and emergency simulation and training that empowers users to quickly create realistic, scenario-driven fire simulations by utilizing their own images of buildings, equipment, and apparatus, ensuring that teams are well-prepared for critical incidents with high levels of relevance to their operational areas. The software facilitates both individual and group training through dynamic real-time simulations, whether conducted on-site or remotely, and provides customizable scenarios that cater to various training needs, including incident command, company officer development, size-up practices, HazMat safety drills, and preparation for promotional exams. Among its robust features are the capabilities to integrate simulations into learning management systems, websites, or emails, offer interactive walkthroughs, adapt simulation conditions in real-time, incorporate built-in messaging, and utilize checkoff forms to monitor training progress, in addition to supporting immersive 360° remote simulations. Furthermore, the Command Training Center (CTC) enables efficient cloud-based management of training exercises, allowing for the seamless coordination of multiple participants in a single training environment, which enhances the overall learning experience. This multifaceted approach not only improves readiness but also fosters collaboration among emergency response teams.
