Description

Most IT departments are currently in the process of redesigning their data center. This is mainly due to the desire to reduce costs while simultaneously implementing the ability support a virtualized, cloud-enabled and dynamic data center. The modern data center has one of its most important features: increasing traffic between servers. Most servers are Linux- or UNIX-based. The next-generation data centre must facilitate server-to-server communication that is high-availability and highly tuned for performance. IT staff require access to server performance details and availability information from their browser desktops and their mobile phones. They also need a simpler way to see server status. Specifically, we will be focusing on consolidation, virtualization, and Cloud computing.

Description

Galène, also known as Galene, serves as a user-friendly videoconference server, categorized as an SFU, that requires a moderate amount of server resources for deployment. Initially created for educational purposes such as lectures, seminars, and tutorials, it has proven to be effective for standard business meetings as well. This platform has been successfully utilized at prominent institutions like Université de Paris and Sorbonne Université, facilitating various academic activities including lectures, practical sessions, and staff gatherings, in addition to hosting two significant conferences, SOCS'2020 and JFLA'2021. Built using Go, Galène employs the Pion implementation of WebRTC on the server side, which has been rigorously tested on Linux systems, specifically amd64 and arm64 architectures, while also demonstrating compatibility with Linux armv7, mips (OpenWRT), and even Windows operating systems. Additionally, it is expected to be adaptable to other platforms, including Mac OS X, enhancing its versatility for users. The default client is designed in Javascript, ensuring functionality across the latest versions of major web browsers on both mobile and desktop devices, although users should refer to the FAQ for specifics regarding compatibility issues with certain browsers.
