Description

ARToolKit made its debut as an open-source project in 2001 and was managed by ARToolworks, which maintained an open-source version until its sale in 2015. Concerned about the dwindling engagement on the ARToolKit forum in late 2017 and the potential decline of this beloved project, Ben Vaughan and Phil Lamb, who were the former CEO and CTO of ARToolworks, established artoolkitX to guarantee ongoing development and support for the ARToolKit community. Supported by Realmax Inc, a prominent Chinese company at the forefront of developing innovative AR hardware and software, artoolkitX aims to revitalize and sustain the legacy of ARToolKit while fostering a thriving community around augmented reality technology. This initiative reflects a commitment to ensuring that the tools and resources for AR development remain accessible and relevant in an ever-changing technological landscape.

Description

DroidAR serves as a versatile framework designed for Augmented Reality applications on Android devices. It supports both marker-based and location-based augmented reality experiences, catering to a variety of use cases. Users can explore several demo applications that showcase its capabilities (see the videos below). For up-to-date information on DroidAR, visit our blog. The framework is available for free download under the GNU GPL v3 license from our GitHub repository, with a commercial licensing option also provided. Since its prototype inception as an augmented reality development tool in 2010, DroidAR has undergone continuous enhancements and feature additions. This software development kit (SDK) allows developers to seamlessly integrate augmented reality functionalities into their own applications. We offer the SDK at no cost for non-commercial projects under an Open Source License. Over the years, it has grown to become one of the most popular open-source augmented reality SDKs tailored for the Android ecosystem, reflecting its widespread adoption in the developer community.
