Voice Over IP for Linux? 5

aibrahim asks: "Does anyone know of a way to make a Linux/*BSD box into a router for Internet telephony ? I am curious if there are soltuions available for Linux like those offered by TEK DigiTel. If there isn't a solution, then what do you think the hurdles are to implementing one?"

Here Come The Weblogs 61

Weblogs -- described by one of their creators as the "pirate radio stations" of the Web, are a new, personal, and determinedly non-hostile evolution of the electric community. They are also the freshest example of how people use the Net to make their own, radically different new media. A look at Weblogs plus a list of a few identifiable existing species in the electric community. Feel free, of course, to add your own.

Carbon Nanotube Semiconductor Possibilites 14

hin writes "At the recent ISSCC in San Francisco, a review paper was presented at the conference in regard to the feasibility of carbon nanotubes for use in semiconductors. " As most people know, put nano in something, and you'll get my attention-but these engineers are talking about using carbon nanotubes that would be hexagonally shaped (thoughts of benzene rings run through my head), and can be as small as 1.4 nm, and as long as 10 microns. There are still a significant number of hurdles to jump before having this even practical, but as the artile states: "It's becoming an experimental field of research rather than a theoretical one."

Netscape pulls in front in corporate market

Zdnet is reporting a study by Zona Research Inc that shows Netscape's dominance of the corporate market increasing, to lead IE by 60% to 40%. Moreover 84% of IE users in companies must do so due to company policy. This is good news for Netscape, which makes its revenues off server software for companies: more browser recognition and usage decrease the hurdles it faces to sell its server software for which its browser is optimised. However the results are bad for other browsers: for the first time since 1996 all the companies surveyed use either IE or Netscape. Thanks to Linux Today for the link.

Feature:Bruce Rebuts Linus on KDE/Gnome

Allright I know I said no more Gnome/KDE stuff, but Bruce Perens asked me to post this, and its worth reading. Now I'm going to be frank here guys, keep the comments under control. I know this is a hot issue, but think before you post. This issue is a major schism, and we need to solve it, not bicker amongst ourselves about it. Now hit the link below and read Bruce Perens rebuttal to Linus' opinions on the KDE/Gnome debate. Update I had to close the comments. Not because they were bad, but because we had 95% of the httpd processes on this machine serving up that story. 200+ comments in 6 hours was just too much. Anyone wanna swap a boatload a RAM for advertising? If we can get more RAM, this hopefully won't happen again.
