Richard Finney wrote in to send us a Yahoo/ZD article entitled Linux hamstrung by lack of standards? It mostly revolves around the Comdex stuff from monday, but it has a few choice quotes, especially Larry Augustin predicting that Linux will supplant NT in the server market this year, comments about how Linux is growing in the corporate world, and a little bit about the standards thing. Its odd that they chose that title when the artice really doesn't spend much time on the subject.

James Morris writes "A story at Newswire reports that SCO CEO Doug Michels considers Red Hat selling Linux to be 'a Fraud' because it was developed freely. Sounds like he forgot his medication again. " I suppose it's an interesting point-but I think the angle SCO takes is a probably a wee bit different.

datazone asks: "I have a particular network device, that is currently not supported, however the manufacturer gave me a precompiled module from a 2.0.33 system. They have no plans of releasing the source or creating new modules, it was only by numerous messages that I got my hands on these. The only problem is that i use the 2.2.4 kernel and it will not allow me to load these modules. I was wondering if anyone knew a way around this. I need to get these modules loaded, without having to use an old kernel. Anyone have any information on this?"

I read that article about the Red Hat backlash and I often see comments here on Slashdot that make disparaging remarks against them. I'm curious: has Red Hat actually done anything that warrants this type of reaction? Or are people just getting paranoid about what Red Hat has the potential to do? No, I'm not a Red Hat lacky, I'd just like to illuminate a potentially irrational paranoia within the community." So what do you all think?

GnuGrendel sent us a News.com Story about Red Hat 6.0. Scheduled to be on shelves on May 10, it ought to be announced on Monday. Supposedly more expensive for the box, but still free for download (of course). Oh, and both KDE & GNOME.

tomsky sent us more good news from the world of Commercial Support for Linux. Hewlett-Packard Company today announced the availability of HP Linux support services. Another source of 24/7 support for Linux, from another long term player no less.

Given the way my wrists have felt lately, this is something that really makes me think. What do you folks-what's the work being done for handicap access? For everything from RSI to vision impairment, I think this will become more important.

Our eagle eye Chris DiBona is stuck in Chicago this week at Comdex, but he did yell to us that Fermi Labs has announced a 2000 Node Beowulf cluster. If anyone can send me some concrete data, I'd appreciate it.

tomas sent us a press release on yahoo talking about Linux and Supercomputers. Talks about Beowulf and clusters as well as Albuquerque High Performance Computing Center's 128 P2/450 cluster. I'd like one of those, but I don't have $400k, or a building to put it in. (who am I kidding! I couldn't pay the electricity bill to run 128 P2s!)

sundae writes "For those who are into Linux advocacy, check this little piece from WinInfo before you pointlessly brand any critizism as FUD, then attack the author and everything else related. This article criticize the way many pro-Linux sites, such as /., only whine about how the Mindcraft study was funded by Microsoft and ignored the fact that the study actually *did* happen. " My opinion is that the Mindcraft study is completely invalidated by using an optimized Windows box and a vanilla Linux box. Its that simple. I'm kinda bummed that this article fails to mention this, instead implying that the Mindcraft test was reasonable. But don't miss the point- we're our own worst enemy. I got CC'd on a lot of criticism of this report, some of you guys did an excellent job of fairly ripping the report to shreads. Others... well... didn't.
