Journal the_mad_poster's Journal: You Know What? Fuck This. 11

I'm blocked again. I got one downmodded comment recently - the -1 Offtopic that was just a joke in response to Bruce Perens' comment on the "suicidal AC", so, apparently, some stupid little AC shit is trolling on this subnet and Slashdot is blocking me as well. Fine, whatever. Malda and Michael and all of them can go blow a fucking goat for all I care. I was trying to post a link to a really neat GBA development site I found in the story about the homebrew gaming contest that popped up and I couldn't. I tried two proxies and Slashdot has both of them restricted. So, fine - whatever. I'm not going to sit around and fight to get a post through. I'll find a proxy that works and stick to journal entries. Other than that, the only thing I'm posting now in stories are relentless AC trolls. And, fuck proxies - I'm spoofing valid IP addresses now. So, if you get banned for no apparent reason, just ask yourself this question - is it because I got pissed off by Slashdot's dipshit owners, stole your IP, and went ballistic crapflooding or trolling a story?

Edit: and for those folks who aren't on Bruce Perens's fans list, technocrat.net, a Slashcode site that purports to be a more "mature" version of Slashdot, is alive again. Hurry and sign up now while you can still get a three or four digit UID! Plus no ACs!

Edit 2: Oops - not IP spoofing, more like... IP "borrowing" in a non-illegal sort of way ;) I chose a poor set of words there. I have access to a reasonably large number of shell accounts round-a-bouts various upstream providers that some of you may well share a subnet with (because some are private boxes). I'm not spoofing an IP, I'm using someone else's.

  • Can you figure out what IP some of the editors are on? As long as you're spoofing...

  • How are you spoofing a full connection? In the case of TCP the initial reply (SYN/ACK packet) will go back to the IP being spoofed. There won't be an ACK from that machine and the connection will close. [tangent: that's good for packet-kiddies, read on how 'snurf' worked with directed broadcasts]

Unless you're able to fudge the routers along the way with icmp-redirects maybe...
  • ...no zoo.pl. At least not that I can see.

I'm registered [technocrat.net] and have been for some time, but once again, without a reasonably full feature set (particularly zoo.pl) and community behind Slashdot, it's kinda lame. :-/

If we could convince Bruce to implement zoo.pl and get the whole FK circle to move over, I'm game. ;-)

    Cheers,

    Ethelred

    • Looks like he's got a pretty old version of Slash. Karma is numeric. The zoo might be a tough add at that stage of the code. Still only on UID 198, though.
      • That's what confuses me -- I thought journal.pl and zoo.pl came fairly close together?

Maybe my memory is a bit fuzzy on that -- I never followed Slash development very carefully (being somewhat allergic to Perl).

Still only on UID 198, though.

        Haw! I gots a two-digit UID! ;-)

        Cheers,

        Ethelred

    • Well, I just had a look, and registered [technocrat.net]. The place could do with a lot more promotion, this is the first I've heard of it, and there doesn't seem to be much activity, or else it's only attracting the shrinking violets right now... :)

As for the Zoo, I suspect that if the GNAA get wind of Technocrat, your wish will very soon be granted... :(

    • Well, I just saved a copy of my fans list and there's 209 people on it right now. For every 1% of the readership there that signs up on Technocrat, that's ~ a 1% increase in his membership (until we start getting into large numbers of new registrations).

People like FK have HUGE friend/fan bases. A sudden shift from Slashdot onto Technocrat would be a pretty big early boost in membership for Bruce and friends if the "circle" could pull off consensus. We ought to see what folks here think of it first, then w

    • Well, it appears that a rudimentary "zoo"/journal system does exist there, as you can mark someone as a friend, but only users that have written in their journal can be marked in this way. Blah.
  • Take a look at this [amilost.com]. Can't reproduce it, but wow is that strange.

Take an astronaut to launch.

Working...
