Journal Journal: Google Does Distributed Computing

Even though it was rejected by the Editors, I still think it's a valuable submission. So here goes...

Google has started enabling, for now on randomly selected toolbars, their Google Compute feature. Simply put, the Google Toolbar can act as a distributed computing client, crunching numbers using your spare CPU cycles, for the advancement of humanity. The Folding@Home project has the honor of being the first to benefit from this network. For more details, refer to the Google Compute page, which sports a detailed FAQ.

Google is one of the few company I trust enough to run whatever code they want on my computer. Besides, it's just cool to watch the work being accomplished: 26% of p183_1I6Cunf done... Still a long way to go.

You don't have to know how the computer works, just how to work the computer.
