This is what that asshole wrote about Debian and Libranet today as referenced in my journal.

ls -l sg*

Here's what mine looks like (partial); you'll get about 16 lines.

crw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 21, 0 Dec 10 2001 /dev/sg0
crw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 21, 1 Dec 10 2001 /dev/sg1
crw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 21, 10 Dec 10 2001 /dev/sg10

If your lines like above have root root instead of root cdrom then do the following:

chgrp cdrom sg*

If you now do ls -l sg* your listing should look like mine. If you have to change write permissions then chmod 660 sg*

exit - to return to normal user

Try cdrecord -scanbus again and see if it lists your drive. In my post I said to make them members of audio. The group doesn't matter too much. What matters is using a group that you normally are a member off."

    I got this helpful advice from a guy on the Libranet mailing list. It didn't work. I am still getting the samed goddamned error. At least there's 2 hours of Buffy on tonight! The older episodes are so much better IMHO.

Here is what I've tried so far. Default install of Libranet 2.7 Ran XCDRoast as root. Setup every option to be configurable by my username. Entered my username in the list and selected All. Installed CDBakeOven. Setup CDBakeOven as root. Burned and erased CDs as root w/ both programs. Worked great. Neither work as a user. My user is a member of both the cdrom and audio groups. Couldn't run cdrecord -scanbus as suer until I ran a chmod -R 777 /dev/sg* as root. Now I can run cdrecord -scanbus as user and I get the same output as I would as root. I'm pratically banging my head on the desk at this point. Don't even get me started on wireless in Linux.

I am losing my mind on this CDBakeOven problem. Just after I got nVidia drivers working in Libranet, here comes my old nemesis.
    Some guy posted some fairly idiotic, elitist stuff today about "idiot, newbie users" that really got my blood boiling. Wasn't he a user once? Does he brag to chicks about how he uses Debian and Debian only? What a loser. I know I shouldn't let people like this get to me but people like him make it harder and harder for newbies to learn Linux. It's like a private club and they resent us new colored folk and females in their midst.
