Journal Tet's Journal: Music recommendations

Tet's music recommendations for today:

Rammstein are suitably harsh, and just what I need right now. The Dimmu Borgir album is the most brutal piece of music ever recorded, and is perfect for my current frame of mind. There are plenty of bands that have recorded more extreme music, but none that manage to convey the same feeling of brutality. I think that's something to do with being able to retain the melody at the same time. You can lose it, and have something extremely forceful, but it won't have the same depth of feeling as this. Empricism is a true masterpeice. It took a bit of getting used to, and is somewhat different in style to their previous albums, but after a few listens, I came to appreciate just how close to being the perfect album this is. Due to various forms of upheaval in my personal life, my music tastes have taken a turn towards the extreme of late, and this list is less mainstream than I might otherwise have chosen, but that's just how it is. It's not that I don't like the other stuff, but every time I try and listen to it at the moment, I keep returning to that "it's just not Dimmu Borgir" feeling, so I switch over. As soon as the intro to "Fear and wonder" starts, a wave of calm rolls over me, and the world is OK again for a while...
