Journal MsGeek's Journal: Good news, bad news, regarding Fall 2003
Where do I go from here? There is an appeals process and I have to wait for some paperwork to come in. Like I said earlier, my family has rallied around me to a greater or lesser extent since they approve of my plans to go back to school, so maybe I can get help from them. I will definitely be investigating private scholarships, although I suspect that those won't be available to me until I establish my current GPA. I am also covered by the California Department of Rehabilitation (I am mildly handicapped) and there might be monies available there.
Failing all that, however, there is one more alternative. Call it the Save Karyn strategy. I will put up a website and ask for help with my college expenses. It seems like tuition won't be a problem...the only LAVC fee I have to pay is the Associated Student Body membership fee, which is no problem. But books and school supplies are going to be a royal beeyatch. The Math 112 text alone is almost $100 new and almost exactly $72 used. I have some software and hardware needs here, and school supplies tend to nickel and dime you to death even with Back To School sales and the 99 Cents Only and Big Lots stores to help you economize. I know there are also places to go to get your textbooks at a discount, too.
Hopefully, I won't have to use my final option. Hopefully I will get the student aid I am entitled to, or get help from family or Voc-Rehab. But it's an option. Stay tuned.
* Translation from the Japanese: "Please, MsGeek-teacher." There is an Anime/Manga series called Onegai Sensei and I was making a play on that.
