Journal MsGeek's Journal: Comic-Con, day 1
This is so cool...the broadband is absolutely easy to set up to the point of being braindead. $11/day, which is kinda lame, but with the cost of wireless access through T-Mobile (Starbucks, Borders) at $6/hr I can live with it.
As the icon suggests, the big story yesterday was Star Wars-related. Comic-Con marked the premiere of the first Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack) helmed Star Wars: The Clone Wars short. The series of 20 3-minute short Star Wars cartoons for Cartoon Network is the first authorized Star Wars animation since the hideously bad "Ewoks/Droids" in the 1980s.
Holy fsck is this good!!!! I was basically sitting in my seat with my jaw in my lap. This is going to rock and rock hard. This will exorcise any unpleasant memories of the Prequels and of "Ewoks/Droids." There is a great balance of the funny, the dramatic, and action-adventure thrill in the first one. The character design is wonderful, and the marriage of 2D and 3D elements is seamless thanks to the expertise of Rough Draft's Los Angeles and Korean units. (they animated "MTV Oddities: The Maxx" and "Futurama".)
I have more to write about but I don't want to write more now. I have a hell of a lot more to see at the convention.
