CmdrTaco's Journal: Settling Servers, Krashing Konquerors, and More

The servers continue to settle down. We still have a few issues with some functions using to much memory which is a problem. It's caused boxes to die more then a couple of times. But that sorta stuff is fixable, its just a matter of keeping an eye on things. Best of all, CaptTofu seems to have fixed the horrible Invalid Formkey problem that was the bane of my existance all weekend. That stupid problem causing havoc in numerous places on the site and causing a huge flood of bug reports. Very frusterating.

I upgraded debian on my desktop and now KDE has taken to wacking out. Klauncher failing. Its been pretty stable for a long time, and now it goes poof. Ah well. The more irritating thing is that konqueror is still randomly hanging once in awhile. If I visit images.google.com for more then a few pages, it crashes.

Amusing Conspiracy Theory I find it funny that people think that the comment numbering thing was done to prevent first posts. We don't care about first psts. They're lame, but they get moderated down so whatever. The new comment numbering is a blessing and a curse. Yeah its a little harder to find context, but now people won't have problems remembering stories *and* comments. Plus it makes comment retrieval one primary key lookup so its faster then having it be dual key (sid,cid). Especially considering sid was a *string*. So slow. Ah well, I've learned. The best conspiracy theorist was the guy who thought we did it so we can delete comments without people knowing. Man, some people think way further ahead then me. But thanks for giving me the idea.

My Dad's 50th birthday party was saturday and it went great. Many many people wandering around my house. He was totally surprised. And while it was a little cool and humid and there was a tiny bit of sprinkling, the rain itself never came that weather.com was so ominously predicting. Phew.

I think gonna take a few days off later this week. First time since the start of april. Nearly 5 months in between days off. Wow am I due. I feel like I'm in college again or something.
