Girls Bugged Teachers' Staff Room 227

A pair of enterprising Swedish schoolgirls ended up in court after they were caught bugging their teachers break room. The duo hoped they would hear discussions about upcoming tests and school work, allowing them to get better grades. It worked until one of them decided to brag about it on Facebook, and the authorities were called in. The girls were charged with trespassing and fined 2,000 kronor ($270) each in Stockholm District Court.

I've been in front of a keyboard for the last 20 years (thankfully not the entire 20 years - I get up to use the bathroom every now and then), but never noticed what my thumbs were doing when I hit the spacebar - I just hit the spacebar. Someone else actually noticed me doing it & wondered why, and I've been wondering ever since. Could be something I've only started doing recently, but suspect it's how I've typed all along & just never realized.

With the expansion of interactive online gaming, video game action has largely shifted to the home. "Arcades are an anachronism now,” says Danny Frank, a spokesman for the Amusement and Music Owners Association of New York. “They exist only in shopping malls.” But Chinatown Fair has become a center for all the outcasts in the city to bond over their shared love for a good 20-punch combo and “old school” games that more popular arcades don’t stock anymore — the classic Street Fighter II from 1991 and King of Fighters 1996, for example, as well as Ms Pac-Man and Time Crisis. "Now, you can play a million people from all around the world,” says one player. “For me, it’s not the same as playing face-to-face. The young’uns may not care, but I do.”

Actually, I like that reason - makes sense, my right hand is "busy" with the period, so my left hand steps up. I'm a righty by default, so maybe that's why my right hand handles between words - just force of habit to default right first? Thanks Rainmayun!

I always put 2 spaces at the end of a sentence. Oddly, though, I've noticed that when I type, if it's a space between words I use my right thumb. For the end of my sentence, I use my left one. Something I didn't even realize I did until about 6 months ago, and I've been doing this for about 20 years!

drewtheman writes "New studies of the plumbing that feeds the Yellowstone supervolcano in Wyoming's Yellowstone National Park shows the plume and the magma chamber under the volcano are larger than first thought and contradicts claims that only shallow hot rock exists. University of Utah research professor of geophysics Robert Smith led four separate studies that verify a plume of hot and molten rock at least 410 miles deep that rises at an angle from the northwest."
