Comment Clueless (Score 1) 387

Shows how clueless Ballmer is they need to break it up in to smaller companies for the good of the shareholders. But he's far to egotistical to realize that. One giant bloated infighting company is not the answer. And even though Ballmer said the divisions should play nice that won't make it so.

It's simple just put an option in control panel to revert to "classic" windows 7 just like you can revert to Windows classic in Windows 7, Vista, and Xp .

It's not that they tried to innovate and missed the mark it's their my way or the highway attitude. They try the Apple thing of "We know better what you want" without the design chops of say a Jony Ive. That only works for Apple because often but not always they do know.

This is the dumbest story I have ever seen. Sure you can 3D print a lower but why would you want to it's going to suck compared to the one you can buy for 100 bucks online. And it's NOT A GUN go ahead try to shoot it. Does not work without a barrel or bolt and if you want semi auto an ejector and gas tube. And if you 3D print those parts which actually make a gun fire and try and use them you will likely just kill yourself. So everyone please stop being SO IGNORANT about firearms. I can sorta of understand random people being so ignorant but the press is supposed to have a modicum of research ability. But apparently not if page views are on the line. This is the kind of thing that makes me think humanity is doomed and unworthy of saving.

I think this is all a bullshit PR campaign thought up by an ad agency in fact the suspicious number of slashdot stories around the chrome book makes me think they are getting paid as part of this deal in other words this story is a BS slashvertisement and a good percentage of the people here and perhaps even you are paid astroturfers.

FDM has been around since the 80s it's not new. And neither 3D systems or Stratasys came up with it. S Scott Crump did. Now they may have patents on STL that's a different story. And I am sure they have BS patents around FDM but they didn't invent FDM and the tech is over 30 years old now. And that is what the Replicator 2 and RepRap use not STL so bullshit to all of this statement that they should have patent protection on FDM.

No good business reasons to upgrade except for Microsoft's bottom line. Upgrades are good for Microsoft but not necessarily Windows users. It's time to start thinking about upgrades differently the desktop computer operating system technology is pretty mature at this point. The reasons for upgrading are often not really there anymore. Lucky for Microsoft they have drones like you who will advocate people upgrade for no good reason.

Actually it's quite noticeable in real world use. I just tried out Ubuntu 12.0.4 on a 12 inch netbook Asus 1201N with Nvidia ION graphics. It was all but unusable with Unity and had been running Windows 7 fine. I put Xubunutu on and it is much better. They quite simply and thoroughly screwed the pooch with Unity. It's pretty bad and this insistence that the Unity bar not be moved is insane when you can move the taskbar in Windows and the dock in OS X . It's a design choice that is antithetical to the community that Canonical is a part of. I mean Mark Shuttleworth appears to have a Job's complex and the whole idea of open source is freedom not restriction. It's just sad really.
