Comment Re:high taxes != wrong (Score 1) 352

Yes, high taxes could be used to build a quality school system and good infrastructure to make life better.

Or it could be spent to buy votes and enrich the politically connected. Rochester school district does spend $15,614 per a pupil. Way above the national average. http://www.newyorkschools.com/districts/rochester-city-school-district.html What does that buy? Good pay for political powerful unions members. The district was very proud that in 2010 the graduation rate was 46.1%, up from 42.1%

The white verse blue shirt is also related to the terms white collar and blue collar. Though currently not nearly as rigid of a class distinction as it was in the past. Basically, you "high" status of doing desk work was publicly shown by wearing white clothing that you could not keep unstained if you were to preform manual labor. Blue coveralls are often issued those engaged dirty work. Such as an auto mechanic. Google searching "mechanic coveralls." Submission + - Game publisher following pirates to find a market (wsj.com)

RossR writes: A Chinese multiplayer online game company is taking note of the success of "private servers" running pirated and altered versions. In moves that show some common sense, when a pirate server is taken down Shanda Games sees it as sign of a undeserved market. Properly licensed servers are occasionally installed for the geographic location previously served by the unlicensed servers. Shanda is taking it a step further by developing a new platform that would allow for the flexible rule changes favored in the hacked versions. Also of interest, is the reference to escalation cyber attacks between private server providers.

If nimble game companies like these learn to market directly to the west, the current dominate players will be in trouble. As is starting to happen in the cell phone market.

2) If this study actually significantly contradicts our knowledge of global heating, why has it been published in Remote Sensing, and not a more reputable journal?

Tell me what do you think the phrase "Remote Sensing" refers to?

I'm guessing that you are confusing it with "Remote Viewing."

Sounds like it was hard to published it on its merits alone. The last line of the paper is a bit cryptic.

"The project was funded privately by Lottolab Studio, as the referees argued that young people cannot do real science."

What does the funding source have to do with the referees' prejudices? Was some extra funding needed to resolve their concerns?

Personally, I am going to look for an excuse to cite their paper.

Submission + - Hydrogen fire and explosion renewable fuel station (13wham.com)

RossR writes: There was a Hydrogen fire and explosion renewable fuel station used by government vehicles. The nearby freeway and airport was closed resulting in diverted flights. This may the first major incident at a Hydrogen vehicle refueling station. GM has their major fuel cell development center nearby in the town of Honeoye Falls. The fire occurred when the 18-wheeler tractor truck was transferring Hydrogen to the station. The airport press conference reported that airport firefighters responded first and initially waited on the scene deciding how to respond. No news yet if the hard to see flames of Hydrogen combustion contributed to this delay. The fueling station is also adjacent to a NY State Troopers station and a firefighting training facility is a few blocks away. It will be interesting to see how this incident affects the future of Hydrogen cars.

So far this is has been only covered by local news:
