Far better Quake sourceports have popped up that have taken a lot less time than this. Darkplaces and ezQuake seem to still be in development and look fantastic.
People with HTPCs, people with large monitors, gamers who use gamepads, people giving or viewing presentations, etc.
They still exist, but they're not very prominent. I use an HTC Evo Shift 4G, basically a smaller version of the Evo with a slide-out keyboard, and I far prefer it to any of the touchscreen-only devices I've played around with.

Every time a carrier gets the iPhone they have to make big changes to their data rates and pricing just to accommodate all the extra strain on their network. Maybe if it had worked out, we all wouldn't be subsidizing iPhone users and would have cheaper phone plans and higher bandwidth caps.
