Submission + - Hotmail users get a clean start to 2011 (pcmag.com)

nycguy writes: Hotmail users may resolve to find a better email provider after finding their accounts have been reset, starting yesterday and continuing today. Microsoft's support forums are choked with complaints from users whose accounts have apparently been erroneously reset due to "inactivity", causing all saved emails and folders to be deleted.

Submission + - Nasa's moon mission eclipsed (orlandosentinel.com)

nycguy writes: Content to stay closer to Earth, the Obama administration will propose cancelling the Constellation Program, intended to return astronauts to the moon by 2020. According to an unamed administration official, "we certainly don't need to go back to the moon," but Nasa should instead focus on more Earth-related pursuits, like monitoring climate change. The administration doesn't entirely abandon space exploration, however, with funding for a heavy-lift rocket as well as private companies developing space technologies.

Submission + - Obama takes a pass on Dalai Lama (telegraph.co.uk)

nycguy writes: Kowtowing to Chinese sensibilities and reversing the stance from his presidential election campaign, Barack Obama has decided to defer meeting with the Dalai Lama, breaking the tradition set by the previous three presidents. The Tibetan prime minister in exile, Samdhong Rinpoche, stated the obvious, saying "Today, economic interests are much greater than other interests."
