Wow. I never thought of it that way. Sorry guys.

Someone call the Nobel committee and tell them that the deal's off, and the teamsters who were planning to start work on Monday to tell them that Christmas is going to suck again this year. Kids need to learn that.

You're a hard man, doing hard things, the_bard. I respect you for making this decision. Could you break it to 'lil Barak Obama though? I just keep thinking about how his eyes lit up when I told him my plan... and I don't have the heart.

We clearly don't know enough about the sun. It's too bad no one's thought of a way to take core samples...

I've got it. If we could only place some sort of "rig" on the sun, with a kind of "pipe"...we could pump solar material to Earth for further study.

I know what you're saying. The Sun's really, really hot. We could pump the solar plasma to a place that was already used to warmth. Like, say the Gulf coast of the US.

Someone make me the president of something.

Submission + - New Clean Magnesium Energy Cycle (inventorspot.com)

RemyBR writes: An experiment being performed at the Hokkaido Toyako G8 summit in Chitose, Japan, aims to prove that the revolutionary Magnesium Energy Cycle could one day free society from dependence on fossil fuels. The demonstration conducted by Tokyo Institute of Technology Professor Takashi Yabe uses water and the common metallic element Magnesium to create pollution-free power.

What's more, solar-powered lasers are used to renew the magnesium fuel with the only waste product being oxygen. Professor Yabe's team at TIT has been steadily testing the technology for several years now, and the pilot plant at Chitose is intended to showcase the environmentally-friendly fuel cycle to an influential audience at the G8 environmental summit.

Submission + - Artificial intelligence: What has it achieved?

An anonymous reader writes: It's over half a century since US computer scientist John McCarthy coined the term "artificial intelligence" as this article notes — and suggested a conference on the topic might be in order. So what do Slashdot readers think of AI's efforts in the years since 1955? Are driverless cars and Asimo — the bot that can climb perfectly proportioned stairs — an amazing achievement or should we humans have produced more brainy machinery since then?

99 to 1 odds that this is in fact *another* Fox negotiating stunt. A few years back, when Family Guy went off the air, they held a "contest" to find a new animated sitcom. Like a moron I entered with a friend. Our submission wasn't epic or anything, but they quietly sent it back to us. No new animated show came from the contest and then Family Guy came back with American Dad bringing up the rear (Now THAT'S a sitcom title: "Bringing up the Rear". It could be a family friendly spinoff of Assy Mcgee). The whole contest was PHONY. YOU'RE A PHONY, FOX NETWORK! HEY GUYS... THIS NETWORK'S A PHONY! That said, I do a few voices, so let me review some old clips....
