My son was put on time release Ritalin as soon as he reached school by his mother.
He was moody, disruptive, etc. Of course, since I did not meet him til he was eight, his mother was an alcoholic, etc, etc, obviously there were other factors.
The procedure was diagnose by teacher and see a doc and take some stupid concentration test, medicate. Mom says still not controllable, more medication. Repeat.
I finally got him and he was on enough Concerta that a pill in the morning still had his pupils as big as saucers at 10 pm at nite. Weaned him off everything over six months, dealt with the bad behavior, and he was manageable.
Medication until desired affect was just cruel, I wanted to knock the doc's teeth out.
He was very bright, and very bored in school.
But as someone said here earlier, our education bar is SO FREAKING LOW, only a moron is kept engaged.
Two kindergardeners were on the playground watching a 747 overhead. One says "look at that, 246,000 pound payload and 54,000 gallon fuel capacity", the other "yeah, max thrust 45,000 lbs and an 1800 nautical mile range".
Just then the bell rang and they looked at each other and one said, "guess it's back to stringing the damn beads!"
