And the step after that, is to just standardized the hardware for a generation, so that everyone has the same video card, processor, ram, etc and ship games on DVD's and play directly off of them... End-user support will drop even further to the point that your only calls are hardware failure and scratched disks (Outside of a buggy game). They could go with some trendy name, like XBox or Playstation.

I'll never understand why someone would pirate. There are things I want to see but don't want to pay what they want, but I wait until it's at RedBox or on NetFlix, or I just wind up never seeing it. Just like there are restaurants I'd want to eat at all the time, but I choose to eat at home as I don't think what they charge is worth it, except for a special occasion. That's not to say I won't pay though. I'm going to a matinee of the new Batman movie later today. I'm not going to see The Watch until it's $1 though.

Why not just shut your computer down when you're done with it? Unless you're on your computer 24/7... Why keep paying the power company? Years ago I realized I really didn't need to have a whole separate tower running as a server AT HOME. I've had to adapt but I haven't used any of my towers in over a year as I acclimated to using a notebook which is much more energy efficient than my towers were. It was nice always having an asterisk server, or file server set up incase I ever wanted to access something away from home but turns out not that important!

That's what I thought of at first, which would have been nice. Due to life circumstances and moving I tether to my phone currently on 3G which is fine for web browsing and sometimes can watch youtube at home, but an easy way to get my updates without having to bring my laptop to the library (I'm on Ubuntu but would have debated trying Fedora again) was an interesting proposition till I read the article.
