Submission + - SCO Ousts Darl McBride (sltrib.com)

Target Practice writes: As part of an internal restructuring, the CEO position for SCO has been eliminated, and consequently Darl McBride has been fired. The best part is that Darl apparently learned about this over the Internet on Monday. Here's the press release from The SCO Group on the subject.
Red Hat Software

Submission + - Red Hat's stock price now higher than Microsoft's (cio.com.au) 3

isabright writes: Did anyone see this historic event coming? As of the last Nasdaq trade on October 19, 2009, Red Hat’s share price stood at $28.46 with the mighty Microsoft in its shadow at $26.36. That's right, the Linux vendor Red Hat now has a higher share price than Microsoft and it isn't due to the dotcom boom. Who said you can’t make a business out of free software? What’s more, the growth in the value of each share tells a very different story. According to Nasdaq data, since 2001 Red Hat has experienced more than 600 per cent growth, while during the same period Microsoft has experienced negative growth of its share price. How long will it take Microsoft to regain its lost share value?
GNU is Not Unix

Submission + - New gNewSense release get rids of mono programs (fsf.org)

hayalci writes: A new release of the "all-free" GNU/Linux distribution gNewSense, backed by the Free Software Foundation, hit the servers in September.

This version gets rid of two mono programs, Tomboy and Fspot, which are installed by default on Ubuntu, and replaces them by Gnote and gThumb, which perform the same functions but written in C++ and C.

More info can be found in the release announcement.

I feel it's unfair that grep and sed were separate options, and awk isn't even listed. Those three are like a family, so this poll is like the two older kids locked their sibling in the basement and then asked their mom which of the present children was her favorite. ... not like this happened to me as a child or anything.

The dispute itself doesn't. The dispute's debate floor, in the Mormon capitol of the world, is where the correlation is drawn.

For example, they got the LDS leadership's advice before introducing a bill to reform alcohol laws. Everything short of requiring baptism to be in the senate here :)
