For elementary level education, it is a SIN to have any curriculum that only super/excellent/great teachers can teach kids well. My observation as a PTA board member now is that poorly a designed curriculum package make both teachers and students suffer.

I have to say that STEM education in US is not good enough. For instance, kids start to use calculators too early. Using calculator is a great way to simplify many computation tasks. However, it deprives kids the opportunities to THINK and ESTIMATE. Both are crucial for STEM jobs.

In universities, I have encountered engineering students who did not know what they should really know. Well, they eventually got their degrees. In my opinion, it is much better off for them to pursue jobs in areas other than STEM.

"To qualify for the challenge, participants must drive at least 500 miles during the 30-day period and at least 75 miles each week. At the end of each 30-day period, judges will examine the Prius trip computer to see who achieved the highest MPG in each wave."

In fact, any paradigm advocates differentiation and tracking reinforces inequality.

1) Can someone bring guns to school and practice shooting?

Even it is a scientific experiment, there must be certain conditions to limit the scope / location / time that the experiment should be performed.

2) BB Gun accident happened in their home.

That is why welfare states in EU are in deep financial trouble.

In general, one job to support a whole family is not a norm for human race. The easy life will tax future generation heavily.

My goverment takes 45% of my wages in taxes and I still can support whole family with one job + supproting old mother (widow) in former communist state. That is how we do things in Europe...

When I first came to US, I was shocked to see those wood utility poles. It is so ancient. There are many excuses for keeping those. People need to go to some developing countries, particularly BRIC, to take a look at their infrastructures. Where is the $$ for change?

When I am traveling with my family, we have an ipad and a laptop with us. In the car, my kids and my wife can check whatever over internet. So, 3G is not a must!!

kidding... It is really a nice interview to read. I am in a big company. There are tons of smart people. However, the company keeps going south. If the management team were as frank/honest as Sculley, we should have been better.
