Weight is already taken into account when you register and get a license plate from your state, as is the age of the vehicle, size of the engine, and other factors.

My 5 year old motorcycle costs as much to tag as my ten year old sports car, but the bike gets 50mpg highway and can still go 200+ (take that Prius!), and the impact is negligible compared to any four wheel vehicle, even a "smart" car. Only federal highway systems are eligible to get federal funding for road work, the state and local governments front the cost of the majority of infrastructure. Now, if you really wanted a high MPG car that beats the pants off of pretty much all hybrid and electric vehicles out there, the Ford Fiesta with its 65.5+ mpg engine would be the way to go, but alas it won't be sold here in the US

Anyways, this is nothing more than another attempt by Uncle Sam to grab at more money rather than trimming the fat in our government and cutting the costs of redundant and unnecessary departments.

Oh give me a phone
that I can say that I own,
but the manufacturers say 'no way'.

Where I download an app,
but they say that it's crap,
and take it off without me saying 'ok'.

Oh! Oh! The shame!
Where the iPhone is pwning me all day!

Where seldom is heard
because the antenna is a turd
and drops my calls when I "hold it that way"!

Modded Xbox Bans Prompt EFF Warning About Terms of Service 254

Last month we discussed news that Microsoft had banned hundreds of thousands of Xbox users for using modified consoles. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has now pointed to this round of bans as a prime example of the power given to providers of online services through 'Terms of Service' and other usage agreements. "No matter how much we rely on them to get on with our everyday lives, access to online services — like email, social networking sites, and (wait for it) online gaming — can never be guaranteed. ... he who writes the TOS makes the rules, and when it comes to enforcing them, the service provider often behaves as though it is also the judge, jury and executioner. ... While the mass ban provides a useful illustration of their danger, these terms can be found in nearly all TOS agreements for all kinds of services. There have been virtually no legal challenges to these kinds of arbitrary termination clauses, but we imagine this will be a growth area for lawyers."

Researchers Warn of Possible BitTorrent Meltdown 294

secmartin writes "Researchers at Delft University warn that large parts of the BitTorrent network might collapse if The Pirate Bay is forced to shut down. A large part of the available torrents use The Pirate Bay as tracker, and other available trackers will probably be overloaded if all traffic is shifted there. TPB is currently using eight servers for their trackers. According to the researchers, even trackerless torrents using the DHT protocol will face problems: 'One bug in a DHT sorting routine ensures that it can only "stumble upon success", meaning torrent downloads will not start in seconds or minutes if Pirate Bay goes down in flames.'"

You also forgot the other critical part which the cups that McD's used to serve coffee were structurally inferior, especially under such hot temperatures, and required the LID to provide rigidity. The cup that was handed to this lady from the McD's employee in the drive thru did not have the lid properly secured which resulted in the cup failing and was crushed in her hands as she brought it over her lap to put into her cup holder in the center console.
