Submission + - How to get rid of computer smell
farbles writes: I got an excellent deal on a second-hand computer from someone who had purchased it new six weeks ago in better times. The problem is that it puts out a strong scented cat-litter perfume smell. I took everything apart, blew off all components with canned air, cleaned the mesh filter screen and kept the computer running with fans on high for three days and while the smell is diminished, it's still strong enough to make me slightly nauseous and I'm not particularly environmentally sensitive.
If this were anything else, I could wash it off with strong detergent or scrub it down with baking soda but I don't think that would be productive here. How have others dealt with this in the past and do Slashdot readers have any tips to pass on?
